Plakias is an old hippie hangout. These days it is a chilled resort with more than it's fair share of fish restaurants. The location on the south coast of Crete, behind mountains means that it is generally warmer than than the northern resorts that the package travel business seems to prefer. It is famous for the nearby promotory known as Crocodile Rock. Nearby is the Battle of Crete memorial by Preveli Monastery.
